Duran Duran - Astronaut (2004)

After the doodlings of the three remaining members (John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon) with Warren Cucurullo (ex-MIssing Persons, ex-Zappa) on the preceding albums before this, the three of them decide to reform with the original two members (Roger Taylor - drums, Andy Taylor - guitar) who were basically persona non grata at that time, ditching Cucurullo in the process to record what is probably, IMHO, their most consistent and sterling effort, bypassing the likes of "Rio", "Wedding Album" and the eponymous debut.
Do not judge this album by its first single, the rather torpid "Reach Up (For the Sunrise)". Every other song here is extremely hooksy and guaranteed to remain in your brain for the months to come. The second single "What Happens Tomorrow" is a lot better, even if it can't quite reach the status of "Skin Trade" (off "Notorious") or "New Moon On Monday (off the rather tedious "7 & The Ragged Tiger"). This is my pick for THE album of the 00s. - Il Duce
